ATV vs Quad vs UTV: What Is the Difference?
Booking an off-road tour and confused by the acronyms? Here is the quick breakdown.
ATV
All Terrain Vehicle. A four-wheeler with handlebars. You straddle the seat like a motorcycle. Single rider in most models. Most flexible for tight trails.
Quad
A colloquial name for ATV, most common in Europe and Latin America. Same vehicle, different label. If a Viator listing says "Quad tour", expect an ATV.
UTV
Utility Task Vehicle. A side-by-side: you sit next to the driver in a cabin with a steering wheel. Bigger, more stable, carries 2 to 4 people. Ideal for couples or families.
